Tips for Choosing Your Photos at Portrait Innovations

This post is sponsored by Portrait Innovations. I’ve learned these tips for choosing your photos while working with their photographers. All opinions are 100% my own and are not influenced in any way.

Getting portraits done can be a stressful time. I know I tend to stress too much because I want everything to turn out great. You have outfits to pick, children that you hope will act right and decision after decision to be made. We take the stress out of our actual session by choosing Portrait Innovations.

Portrait Innovations has been our first choice for several years now. We tell them what we are looking for and they take charge of the session. They are also always willing to adjust, if needed. They understand how to work with children and do an amazing job.

We recently went in for our 2017 holiday portraits. When we were there our photographer took a variety of photos. They did some shots with a holiday background (what we were looking for) and some with backgrounds that would be considered neutral. When all is said and done, how does one even select their photos? I always had a tough time with this until we started going to Portrait Innovations. I’ve learned so much from their staff and want to pass that knowledge along to you.
If you are anything like me, you want to buy ALL of the portraits that are taken. Portrait Innovations does offer an incredible package if you’d like to purchase all of the images or many other packages that will give you a different amount of photos. They have a package for most all budgets! If buying all of the portraits isn’t in the budget let me tell you how we personally go about selecting our portraits.
Holiday Portraits
First, you want to consider the time of year and what the original intent was for the portrait session. For us, this time we wanted holiday portraits with some holiday cards to mail out to our family and friends. These factors gave me an obvious selection for our main selection, the family photo on the holiday background.
Next, don’t only select the photos that look perfect in your eyes. You want those photos, but you also want the personal touch and the memories of the portrait session. We have a daughter that has some priceless looks. She’s not always pleased with how things are going and she’ll let you know. Capturing some of her looks is humorous. Granted, we won’t use those shots in our holiday cards, but we will love looking back on them. This past shoot baby A kept getting up and walking away. Although it was frustrating at the time, we look back and laugh and say “he wasn’t having it!” Let your photos tell your real life story. You’ll cherish them even more.
Consider individual pictures of the children. Are they going to be photos you hang year round? You may not want large sizes of both holiday backgrounds and neutral backgrounds if they are going to be on your wall year round. I personally love getting the 8×10 size to hang year round with the neutral background and a 5×7 size of the individual holiday backgrounds and use them as part of my holiday decorating. I also love getting their 10×13 special effects Decorator Portraits (seen below) with the holiday photos as gifts for family members. Decorator Portrait
Lastly, one thing that will make selecting your photos easier is to make a list of who you are giving photos to and what sizes you will need. Will you be handing out photos of the kids, individuals, family photos, etc? Once you have the list and sizes noted you can make a list of how many portraits you’ll need to order at your session. Trust me, this makes your appointment much less stressful. This may change a bit based on what photos are added in (outside of what you planned) but you have a starting point, which is the most important thing.
Right now, Portrait Innovations has a great deal on a holiday package! The package includes 42 portraits, a 16×20 canvas or a mug with 2 ornaments and you can get 20% off of your in-studio purchases! This deal is only good through December 31 so make your appointment now! One of my favorite things about Portrait Innovations is that you get your prints the same day! You can have your holiday cards and photos typically within an hour!
