Vacation Begins at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Downtown Pittsburgh

When you live in metro Detroit, have four little ones and plan on driving nearly eight hours, having a “layover” half way is a good fabulous idea. When we started planning our vacation for this summer I knew we would need to plan for a day or two half way. We decided Pittsburgh would be the perfect place to stop. I did a lot of research and found numerous things we could do and a great place to stay downtown, the Doubletree by Hilton.

This post is written in partnership with Doubletree by Hilton but all opinions are my own.

We arrived in Pittsburgh shortly after lunchtime. First we went to the hotel to see if we could check in early and thankfully it wasn’t a problem. The Doubletree has valet parking in the garage and kindly agreed to keep our van up front until we were able to check in so we could easily access our things.

We were offered their amazing warm cookies upon check in but since the kids hadn’t eaten yet I asked if we could stop by later for cookies. That was definitely something I was looking forward to.

We went to our room and were pleasantly surprised. The room was huge (we do have a pretty big family after all and they definitely accommodated us!) and the views were out of this world.

There was a room with a king sized bed, a walk-in closet and a bathroom that my husband and I used. They even had a crib in the room ready for baby Avy.

There was another room with a queen bed that the kids ended up using. We also had a living space with a pull out couch, chair, TV, desk, lamps, microwave and refrigerator. It was definitely a place we could get comfortable in for a long term stay, if needed. Every space had a beautiful view as our room was located on a corner of the hotel.

After we brought our things from the van we decided to relax in the room and order pizza for lunch. After we finished and watched some TV we were able to enjoy the hotel pool and have fun with the kids. They love being in the water and since they missed lessons that week it was a great chance to let them practice their moves and a great way to have some quality family time at the beginning of our vacation. The pool was gorgeous and had windows to see what was going on outside. There was a sufficient amount of tables, chairs and towels and there was even music with an adjustable volume for guests.

After swimming we went back to the room and changed and played a few games with the kids. We then went to the front desk and got our warm cookies, went next door to the convenient store for milk and had milk and cookies at bedtime. It was vacation after all so cookies at bedtime were allowed! 😉

The kids wanted to lay in bed and watch TV and they fell asleep soon after! They don’t have TVs in their rooms at home so this was a special treat for them, too. It was an amazing day at the Doubletree by Hilton Downtown Pittsburgh.

In the morning we woke up, showered and got ready for our day. Our stay included breakfast at the hotel restaurant, which was a buffet with omelet bar. The food was a fantastic way to start our day with full bellies. It was great food and my husband and I truly enjoyed the omelets. The kids loved the pancakes and cereal options. It was very family friendly.

At breakfast we got a visit from Chad, the hotel’s marketing manager and it was a pleasure to meet him. He was very welcoming and the kids loved chatting with him. They told him all about how it was birthday week in our family (three of us had birthdays that week) and our vacation plans. He was incredibly kind to them and we appreciated that so much. Soon after chatting with him a surprise was delivered to our table – a plate full of muffins with birthday candles in them. The kids were so excited about the muffin cake! It definitely started their day with many smiles and full hearts. I wish I had thought about taking a photo but I was just enjoying the moment with my family. <3

The hotel staff made our stay truly enjoyable and it was a memorable start to our first family vacation. They were accommodating for our large family and very kind in every possible way.

Start your next vacation at DoubleTree by Hilton! Your family will love it!
