Getting Kids Excited about Brushing and Oral Healthcare

This post and party were sponsored by ACT Kids Toothpaste but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

As moms there are many battles we face each and every day. Some moms have trouble getting their kids to eat their veggies, some have trouble getting kids to wake up and get to school on time, some have trouble with getting kids to go to bed and some experience troubles getting their kids excited about brushing and oral healthcare. No matter what the battle is you face there are various things you can try adding to your routine to help with your struggles. This year we’ve decided that we are going to tackle the bedtime routine from brushing to getting to sleep on time as it’s been a struggle for far too long.

ACT Kids Toothpaste

In order to help with this we decided to have an ACT Kids Toothpaste party to celebrate this new toothpaste that is now available for kids ages 2 years and older in both bubble gum and fruit punch flavors. There’s no better way to get kids excited about something than having a party, right?!

We moved into our new house in the fall and I thought this would be the perfect time to invite some neighborhood kids over so the kids can get to know them a bit better. We invited some old friends and some new and we had a blast. ACT Kids Toothpaste provided some great goodie bags to give to the children. They included a tube of the new ACT Kids Toothpaste, a toothbrush, a timer and a tooth eraser. They also gave us the ideas for snacks and some games that the kids loved!

The kids loved the Happy Tooth, Sad Tooth game. It was a game that had a happy (healthy) tooth and an unhappy (unhealthy) tooth. The kids were each given some cut outs of healthy and unhealthy snacks and glue sticks to place each snack on the tooth it belonged. It was a cute game and even the parents enjoyed watching and helping the kids.

Healthy snacks were a must for this party! We decided on pretzels, cheese sticks, some fruits like grapes and cantaloupe and then some more fun things like A Monster of a Treat! We used apple slices, almond butter and mini marshmallows to create “monster teeth” All you do is spread almond butter on two apple slices and use mini marshmallows as teeth to place along the buttery gums. Easy peasy and super cute! The kids loved them simply because of how they looked!

Getting kids excited about brushing

We went over some handouts with valuable information for the parents and handed out brushing charts that would help the kids stay excited about brushing at home. We ended the party with a sampling of the new ACT Kids Toothpastes while the kids brushed their teeth and the kids 6 and older tried the ACT Kids Anticavity Rinse, too!

brushing chart

We’ve been able to get our kids more excited about brushing with the help of this party. I’ve discovered having a few options for their toothpaste is a plus. They like to pick their own flavor each morning and night. My son LOVES having Batman on his toothpaste because what boy doesn’t love superheroes?! New ACT Kids Toothpaste is available at a variety of retail locations, including select Walmart, Walgreens, and Target locations. The brushing charts have also helped. They love coloring in the sun and moon when they brush. The chart also includes rinse for those kids over the age of six.

Brushing Timer

The timers have been a hit, too. I’ve also heard from some neighbors that their kids love the timers. My daughter was excited about the timer from the moment she saw it! It’s something that lets them be independent and know when they are done brushing. It helps them pass the time and they don’t realize how long they are brushing! My husband has even mentioned that they are brushing longer now without fussing about it. Definitely a must have when dealing with brushing battles!

According to a recent survey, nearly 4 in 10 moms (35%) say getting their kid(s) to brush their teeth is one of their most frustrating daily battles, in line with convincing their kid(s) to eat their vegetables (38%) and putting their kid(s) to bed at night (40%).* With these new ideas I’m sure you’ll experience less trouble, as we have, when it comes to getting your kids to brush their teeth. Making it fun makes all the difference in the world!

*This survey was sponsored by Sanofi Consumer Healthcare and conducted online using Toluna’s QuickSurveys methodology between February 13, 2017 and February 14, 2017 among 1,150 moms with children between the ages of two and 12 in the USA. Respondents for Toluna QuickSurveys are selected from among those who have agreed to participate in Toluna surveys.

Toluna’s SmartSelectTM Methodology was used to promote sample representatives. SmartSelect relies on statistical matching rather than probability sampling to select survey respondents, based on demographic, attitudinal and behavioral characteristics that match those of the target population. Figures for age, gender, region, race/ethnicity, education and income are also weighed to bring them into line with their actual proportions within the population. Because the sample is based on those who agreed to participate in Toluna surveys, no estimates of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
