Accessible and Affordable Organics

Organic products have a bad reputation for being expensive. I love giving people an alternative when they tell me they can’t afford to buy organic. I understand that, I really do. Grocery money is one of the few things in a budget that can be adjusted. If you have to make cuts, often times the grocery budget is where you can do it. Recently I teamed up with Stonyfield to show everyone just how accessible and affordable organics can be when you shop at your local Walmart! Even if you aren’t able to get 100% organic groceries you can make a few changes here and there. Let me take you on a journey and show you what you can do by shopping at Walmart.

This post is sponsored by Stonyfield. All opinions are 100% my own.

The produce section is a great place to start going organic. Walmart has an organic section that has VERY competitive prices. Even if you change one or two each week, it’s a start. There are some that I would switch sooner rather than later and those are known as the “dirty dozen”. If you cannot afford to buy everything organic, these are the twelve things you should definitely get organic because they have much higher pesticide levels than others. The twelve foods that are most contaminated and that you should buy organic are: peaches, apples, sweet bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, pears, grapes (imported), spinach, lettuce, potatoes. The twelve least contaminated and cleanest foods are: onions, avacodo, sweet corn (frozen), pineapples, mango, asparagus, sweet peas (frozen), kiwi fruit, bananas, cabbage, broccoli and papaya.

Another thing I love doing bit by bit when changing to organics is my spices/seasonings. Walmart has an INCREDIBLE selection of organic spices and seasonings. You buy one or two a week and before you know it your entire spice rack will be organic and they last for a while!

When I was thinking about what I wanted to write about for this article I decided I wanted to get enough organic foods to have all meals and snacks for an entire day. That was the goal – to show everyone you can eat organic on a budget by shopping at Walmart!

Walmart Organic Breakfast

Breakfast was a success! I was surprised to see organic Great Value milk! I never knew Walmart had organic milk in their own brand so I was impressed. They also had organic cereal! Pair that with some Stonyfield yogurt and your breakfast is set! I also found some organic oatmeal (not the Great Value brand) at our local Walmart.

When I saw the organic macaroni and cheese I knew my kids would be all set for lunch! They can eat mac n cheese all day, every day. Pair that with some apple sauce or yogurt and a veggie and you have a delicious lunch for the kids. Lunch is done with organics from Walmart!

Walmart Organic Dinner

Dinner was the toughest for me to find something that I knew everyone would eat. When I came across the spaghetti noodles and pasta sauce in the Great Value organics I knew this would be perfect for our meatless Monday dinners! Dinner, check.

I love seeing products like Stonyfield yogurt at Walmart. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting to find so many organic foods at Walmart and was pleasantly surprised with the amount of organic food I was able to purchase on my $100 budget. Walmart has become easily accessible to so many and they do make their foods very affordable. The next time you are looking to cut your budget don’t forget you don’t have to cut organics from your grocery list. Shop Walmart for affordable organics!

What other organic items have you found at Walmart?
