Strength Has No Gender

Gender should not be something that interferes in the workplace. We all know that. Does it happen? Of course it does, unfortunately. I started my career in the technical support world about 16 years ago. It was something that, in a way, chose me. I went to school for accounting and like so many others I do not work in my chosen field. When the field of technical support started, most “tech” people were men. It’s still a field dominated by men.

I’ve gotten many comments over the years about being a female in this industry. I’ve answered the phone and had people say, “Can I speak to one of the guys in technical support, please?” I have to let them know that I am in technical support and I’m more than happy to help them. 2017….you’d think this kind of thing wouldn’t happen, right? Guess what else? I’ve had a caller just come right out and tell me, “No offense but I’d rather speak to a male representative.” No offense? Really!?

This is MY career, and although it chose me, I’m happy with it. I enjoy it and I’ve accomplished so much in my career. I can’t let those few callers ruin my work day. When I come across someone like this it gives me more strength actually. It builds me up higher. I am even more proud of myself when I resolve their issue and win them over! 😉

As a mom of five who works outside of the home full time I am often asked how I handle everything. I’m not going to lie. My children and my home life are like a full time job and most nights I’m exhausted. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I work hard every day. Some days more than others. 😉 My husband works hard, too. He’s an elementary school teacher. He’s also experienced gender discrimination in his career. We all need to get into the mind set that Strength Has No Gender™. We are all super! We have many, many roles in our lives but we are not super men or super women. We are simply SUPER.

Brawny Has Taken Note

Have you seen the new Brawny® Pick-a-Size 8 Giant Plus in the limited edition Strength Has No Gender™ pack, exclusive to Walmart? I couldn’t help but notice the end cap display at Walmart the other day. We love Brawny® Paper towels because they offer more sheets on every roll (vs. leading national brand comparable roll and sheet size) and with a large family, they help us clean up whatever life throws down!

Brawny® has taken note of inspirational women breaking down barriers with The Strength Has No Gender™ campaign. It highlights the inspirational stories of everyday women in cities across America who have been breaking down barriers in traditionally male-dominated industries and empowering others. It’s a campaign I appreciate and take note of as a consumer. Thank you, Brawny. Thank you for acknowledging that Strength Has No Gender.

  1. I worked in a Sporting Goods Store – and no I was not a cashier! 😀 I know exactly how you feel when people think they need to talk to a guy about their purchase. Just because I’m a female, doesn’t mean I don’t know what your asking about.

  2. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a woman on the phone when calling for tech support. That would be so cool if I did. #client
