Reading has been a huge part of my life since I was a little girl. I’ve always loved books. My husband, as you all know, is a teacher and he truly knows the importance of reading with kids. He and I both have always been passionate about spreading our love for reading to our kids. We’ve been reading to our kids daily since they were in the womb and now that they are 5, 4 and 2 it’s turned into amazing family time.
Along with the love of reading a goal my husband and I have is to introduce books that are not only fun for the kids but interactive and educational. When we come across a book like this I love sharing it with other parents. Recently, I was introduced to a book titled Garden Safari Vegetable Soup and I knew it was one I had to share!
Garden Safari Vegetable Soup was written by Eluka Moore, Larry Puzniak and Marianne Welsh. The illustrations are by Kristen Gau and are amazingly colorful and fun! My four year old daughter is really into helping me in the kitchen so I think she took to this book more than the other two, although they all love it! They all love acting out what is happening in the book as we read it. In the beginning of the book the characters grab a basket, they seek and look and all three kids pretend they are doing just those things. It’s precious to see them interact with the book.
The book is educational in that it counts items from 1-10 and my kids LOVE counting the featured item on each page. It also indicates the color of the item, which is great for my younger two who are still perfecting their colors. The book always keeps them interested. We stop often when reading the book to review the colors of the featured items, whether or not there are rhyming words on the page and we count the number of each featured item. They love the fun and my husband and I love the education and family time!
The end of the book even has the recipe for Vegetable Soup, which I still need to make with my daughter! She’s been excited about making it after reading all about it and knowing the recipe is right in the book. This is definitely a book you want to add to your child’s library and you’ll enjoy the quality time as much as they enjoy the book! There are additional books from Kitchen Club Kids that look just as exciting and they are definitely on my list of books to add to our library! Don’t forget to check them out!
