I’m a big advocate of making small green changes. I’m an even bigger advocate if that small green change is also healthier for us as women! When it comes to menstrual products I have completely gotten rid of anything not reusable. I’m 100% using a menstrual cup and cloth pads and I’ve never been happier with my period. (Yes, that’s possible.) 😉 The SckoonCup is easy to use and is a product I trust.
Sckoon Organics began in 2003 and they originally sold 100% certified Egyptian organic cotton baby clothes. From there they added SckoonPads, certified organic cloth menstrual pads and in 2013 they cleared FDA approval and launched SckoonCup. Sckoon is known for providing top quality products and after being sent one for review I can vouch that the SckoonCup is definitely one of those products!
This past October, in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, SckoonCup released their SckoonCup Hope. The “Hope” PinkCup Project gives 10% of every cup sale to The Life Beyond Breast Cancer Organization. Green your period and get more healthy and help others in the process: it’s a win/win!
The SckoonCup is made of a squishy medical grade silicone, which makes it easy to insert into place and remove. There are angled suction holes near the rim that provide the maximum capacity and protection which gives it less chance of leakage than other cups. Made in the USA, the SckoonCup is constructed using one piece of silicone (never multiple pieces molded together) which helps make this cup reliable and lasting!
Don’t let the sizing scare you if you are new to cups. The SckoonCup is available in two sizes and they make it easy to know which size you should select: size 1 for women who haven’t previously given birth vaginally and size 2 for women who have given birth vaginally. I do recommend using a cloth pad liner until you really adjust to using the menstrual cup. If the cup is inserted wrong you may have a bit of leakage. Using the SckoonCup is easy! If it’s new to you, practice putting it in and taking it out a few times. That’s all it will take. Trust me, it’s easy to use! There are lots of ways to fold the cup prior to inserting it, you’ll want to figure out what works and feels best for you. When it’s in you can’t even tell it is there! I do not even think about it and go about my day as usual because SckoonCup lasts up to 12 hours. You can wear it all day, take it out to empty and clean and put back in for all night! Cleaning it is easy, too! Simply rinsing your menstrual cup with water between uses is often enough. The easiest and simplest way to sterilize your menstrual cup before and after use requires no chemicals or soaps. You’ll want to bring a deep pot filled with water to a boil and fully submerge your menstrual cup for 5-10 minutes. The retail price is $38.99, which is the cost of approximately four months of disposable menstrual products and the SckoonCup lasts much longer than that!!
I’ve been loving my menstrual cups for some time now and the new “Hope” Sckoon cup is a favorite of mine! I love the girly pink color and the ease of use! It’s definitely a cup I recommend and trust!
