Why is it that dads are so hard to buy for when it comes to gifts? Am I the only one who finds this to be true? My dad, my husband’s dad and even my husband — they are all difficult to buy for. I stress about what to get them for Christmas most years. It seems like the older they get the less they need and want. They are always the first to buy for others who need or even want things but the last to say a word about what they may want or need. My husband will use things for years and years and years and he seems to rarely need new items. This year when I was desperately trying to think of what I would get for these men it came to me…an easy DIY gift idea for dads that includes items they can always use!
DIY Gift Idea for Dads
This easy DIY gift for dads makes the perfect gift for my husband not only because he doesn’t often buy new things for himself and he doesn’t often have much to himself since the kids want to be involved in everything he does (LOL) but also because it’s going to make his morning routine easier and less stressful. You see, we live in a small house. We have three kids in the house and we all share one bathroom. We are always losing something and looking for it so this gift basket will provide all of his morning products in one place! Not only that, but the container is a stackable so we can organize and save room in our bathroom by placing these under the sink. It truly is a gift for dad that he will appreciate and will make his life easier!
When I first started thinking about what to get for these dads in our family I went perusing through the aisles of my local Walmart. I saw a few things here and there that my husband uses but when I came to the shaving aisle, it hit me!
My husband has mentioned a few times now that he needs a new Philips Norelco shaver but of course won’t buy one for himself! Immediately I knew what I could get: the shaver and a basket full of other items he needs every morning so that everything is in one place for him! He’s often frustrated when he can’t find something in our small bathroom so this will make his mornings a bit more relaxed knowing exactly where everything is!
After I decided on this gift basket I went back through the aisles and got some items I know my husband would use and appreciate for his mornings. When I got home I immediately put the basket together and it was so fun! I love making gift baskets because they are easy and you can personalize them in so many ways!
When it comes to making ribbons I find the easiest route possible. With this being wired ribbon it makes it even easier. I simply “fold” the ribbon into 4-5 loops and then tie the ribbon around the bottom and loop it through to secure it. I leave enough ribbon for two pieces to hang down. Once I have the ribbon I use more crafter’s tape to affix the ribbon to the container and then spread out the loops to make it appear as more of a bow. The wired ribbon makes this part so easy! I love it!
The key is to find one bigger ticket item and base your basket around that one item. I selected the Philips Norelco Shaver 3100 because it is something I know he needed and it will add power to his morning. With more minutes per charge, fully washable heads and a Comfort Cut shaving system, he will always ready to quickly finish his morning routine.
