It’s finally here!!! Inside Out was released Tuesday and we headed straight to Walmart that morning to grab the DVD and you should, too if you haven’t yet! I had been waiting for the release of this movie since I visited Pixar and learned all about it back in March. The Joy I felt at that time told me that it was a very special movie and it was going to be hit. The waiting was pure torture. It brought about some Anger and Sadness, actually. The countdown was on and the day finally arrived – Tuesday, November 3 and the celebration began!

Thankfully, I was off of work Tuesday and LA didn’t have school! Someone must have been known that we needed the day off to celebrate the release of Inside Out! 😉 We headed off to Walmart early Tuesday morning to have some Inside Out shopping fun!

Inside Out in stores

One of the first things I saw when we were nearing the movie section was the DVD half pallet full of Inside Out goodness!

The half pallet was full of three different choices: DVD, Blu-ray+DVD+Digital Copy AND the 3D Blu-ray+Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD! Once we had our movie in hand we walked over to the toy section.

Inside Out Character ToysThe kids ALWAYS want toys so I thought, why not? Let’s celebrate the Inside Out fun with TOMY toys and the characters from Inside Out! As we were walking to the toy section my FEAR began. I immediately thought, “what if I can’t find one of the characters?” Well, I was DISGUSTED when my fear came true and we were unable to find three of the characters. We didn’t give up though! On to another Walmart store we went! We are die-hard fans of Inside Out, after all. 😉 At the next Walmart store we did find two more characters, however, we are still without Sadness. Those who are not Inside Out fans might think this is a good thing but for us it’s not a fun thing to be without Sadness. Our search continues and I’m actually going to order it from Walmart’s website if I can’t find it this weekend!

After we returned to the store we spent the afternoon getting ready for our Inside Out watch party! The kids and I put together some fun snacks like blue tortilla chips and salsa, Pistachio Pudding Parfaits, a cheese tray and even a purple juice – each representing an Inside Out character!

I decided to use our new Inside Out TOMY toys in a fun and educational way. My little ones are 5, 3, and 1 so I thought a color matching game would be awesome to help pass the time until daddy got home to watch the movie with us. It generated a lot of excitement about the movie, too!

It was simple. I took out some colored paper, cut it into fours and wrote the color on each sheet. This would not only encourage matching the colors to the characters, but it would also encourage word recognition by having the name of the color printed on the paper. Even if they can’t read it yet seeing it over and over will help it click soon enough!

Inside Out fun

We also spent come time counting the characters and adding and subtracting using the characters. They were doing match and didn’t even realize it because they were having so much fun!

Once daddy got home the kids were thrilled about our activities of the day and quickly filled him in. As we ate dinner we played another game: My Inside Out emotions! We explained to the kids what each of the emotions were and asked them each to pick a character and tell about something in their day that matched that character’s emotion! We went around the table a few times and my husband and I participated, too! We had the most success with our five year old. The three year old tried and baby Annie just wasn’t getting it yet. 😉 It really helped to open up some great conversation at dinner and they loved being able to pick a character and hold onto it while they talked about the part of their day that matched the emotion.

After dinner we grabbed our fun snacks and sat down for the JOY-filled Inside Out viewing! My husband had never seen the movie and he loved it. The kids enjoyed it and it was adorable watching them laugh at the funny moments. I love family movie nights and Inside Out really made it a special treat with the extra fun we had throughout the day.  The next day the DVD was immediately put into our van for the kids’ viewing pleasure as we drive. The Blu-ray stays in the house and everyone is happy!

Be sure to pick up your copy of Inside Out at Walmart! I’d love to hear about your DVD watch party plans!

  1. What a fun watch party! I wanted to do it up for a watch party last night, but I was totally lame and made chicken wings and had the kids watch it while I cooked. Hey, it kept us all JOYful! #client
