Ahhh….back to school time! The time of year that gets our routines back on track and gets the kids on their way to learning all they can! My husband (elementary school teacher) has lost count of the times he has heard “I haven’t read a book since school let out!” from his students upon returning to class in the fall. Students go all summer and don’t pick up a book. This fact truly saddens us, as reading is a passion of ours and sharing books with our family on a daily basis is a part of who we are. He also sees students arrive at school each morning and they are hungry because they didn’t eat breakfast. Luckily, their school does offer a free and reduced breakfast program for low income families, but it makes you think about all of those that don’t! Hearing this breaks his heart (and mine!).
This fall LA starts kindergarten! Can you believe it!? Our mornings will be a bit different as the kids, in the past, ate breakfast at daycare. This fall we’ll need to prepare breakfast before leaving each morning to make sure LA gets a great start to his school day. With Kellogg’s products, this is going to be easy!
We always keep fruit on hand to add to things. The kids like it much better when it’s making their plate more colorful! We love Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats and Eggos! Many of our favorite products have codes for FREE books, which help us not only build our own library and introduce books to our own kids, but allows us to continue giving books to students, too!
Every summer we put together Back to School Welcome Kits for my husband’s students. We gather some supplies they’ll need and pick up some snacks to add and always, always, always make sure to add a book for each child. It’s been made even easier for us because many of the Kellogg’s products we use daily have an offer of a free book with free shipping!! We enter codes on their site and order a book. One Box = One Book! If you aren’t a teacher, consider making these kits for kids in a local shelter or low income program. You’ll be amazed at how something so small can brighten a child’s start to the school year!
We always stock up on products at our local Walmart. They have great prices (especially for back to school!) and always have the breakfast and snack items we need/want.
Back to School Welcome Kits!
We stock up on things over the summer to create these Back to School Welcome Kits for students. We purchase a pencil box to put everything in, supplies like crayons, scissors, glue, highlighters and add a book for them to read.
Easy and perfect – our Back to School Kits for students to start their school year in a positive way and to get a story that will get them back into books! Something as small as a book can really open up a whole new world for kids!
Kellogg’s products, as I mentioned, allow us to give more with their 1 Box = 1 Book program! Each specially marked package includes a code that you simply enter on their site. It’s super easy to order a Scholastic book of your choice, take a look:

This program is a great way to build your library or even donate books! We love to sit and read together! The site also has an option to donate the book though, in case your home library is full (is that possible!?)! 🙂 Your donated book will ship directly to the school you chose in an envelope that says it was generously donated by your family.
Make sure you keep your kids reading during the summer! Free books are definitely a plus and can add such variety to your library at home!
