The Love Story of the Summer – Pixar’s Short Film Lava #InsideOutEvent

I was provided with an all expense paid trip to bring you the details about this movie and others. All opinions are 100% my own and are not influenced in any way.

Pixar's Short Film Lava Who doesn’t love oceans, gorgeous scenery and a tear-jerking love story? When you go to see Inside Out this summer (starting June 19!!) you’ll be treated to the latest Pixar short film of Lava. Lava is short in length but long in emotion and heart. I have to admit that I had a few tears rolling during the screening I saw when I was in San Francisco! The film is amazing with it’s gorgeous color, it’s true-to-Hawaii feel and the music and culture that come through making you feel all of the love it shares.

Pixar's Short Film Lava
It was such fun meeting with Lava Director James Murphy & Producer Andrea Warren. Not only did we get a sneak peek of the short film, but we go to hear all about where the ideas came from and how it was brought to the screen!

Director James Murphy told of how he’s been fascinated with islands and volcanoes since he was a kid. When he and his wife honeymooned in Hawaii his love for islands and volcanoes was brought to life. At that time he also developed a love for Hawaiian culture and music. Although the film is only seven minutes, don’t let that fool you, it has just as much heart as a full length film. There was a lot of research that went into the film and they went to Hawaii to get true inspiration (someone had to do it, right?!). 😉 James Murphy also wrote the song that is in Lava, warning: you won’t be able to stop singing it! He also told us how determined he was to find Hawaiian talent to perform the song in the movie and both singer/actors are from the islands.

We got a treat that evening after we watched Lava: James Murphy himself serenaded us with his song! It’s such a fun, uplifting love story in itself. I love it and sing it often! I really need to find it and put it on my phone! 😉 His talent is endless and you can really see his love for the islands, volcanoes and Hawaiian culture in this film. He’s directed an award winner here!

Take a look for yourself at the clip and hear the amazing song that James Murphy wrote…

I “Lava” everything about this movie and the song! Such an amazing love story!

Short Film Lava Reception at Pixar

The fun didn’t end with the screening though. We got to attend a reception after watching Lava that was full of Hawaiian themed food!

I mean, Hawaiian food after watching a love story all while having the ocean scenery on your mind? It was a night right out of heaven! Only thing missing: hubby! 😉

The food was amazing. The time to talk with the movie’s creators and other bloggers was priceless. It’s definitely something I’ll never forget and I’m so happy to have been a part of.

Make sure you go see Inside Out, starting June 19, and get filled with love while watching the short film Lava right before! Since you still have just over a week to wait to see Inside Out, take a look at the clip again! I love this movie, too!
