I was provided with an all expense paid trip to bring you the details about this movie and others. All opinions are 100% my own and are not influenced in any way.
Monkey Kingdom is in theaters starting today! It’s the newest Disneynature film and I was lucky enough to see it when I was in San Francisco last month. Just like anything Disney does, it will not disappoint.
I have to admit that when I was sitting in the theater viewing Monkey Kingdom it was not what I expected at all. It was educational but it was also a story. A real life story that very well could have been any one of us humans but it was about MONKEYS! It followed the story of a group of monkeys and the part that I didn’t expect was how much I would connect with Maya, the main character.
In Monkey Kingdom Maya is at the bottom of the totem pole and struggles to get even food. It’s amazing to me how this group of monkeys is so similar to humans in the ways that they degrade one another, the women aren’t supportive of ALL women and how there are cliques and some who are just better than others (or so they think).
Maya gave birth to Kip and was, temporarily, a single mama to her son. She, as we all do, wanted nothing but the best for her Kip.Kip is her world and watching the two of them together was so heartwarming!
When Castle Rock, the only home they’ve known, is invaded by another group of monkeys and they are chased away the group is forced to survive in unknown territory and you get to see a new side of all of the characters.
The monkeys are forced into the jungle and they also spend some time in the city. They worked together to survive and to get food. After a while they go back to Castle Rock to try and reclaim their home. What happens next will have you in near tears! Take a look at the trailer if you haven’t yet seen it to get some more details:
Watching the story and how it was so similar to how humans act really had me amazed. It was almost hard to believe this was REAL footage and it IS a real story that was captured over time. You’ll be amazed, too! Take your family to see it this week!
