Earth Week Feature: My Favorite Products Made with Recycled Materials

This is a sponsored post, however, all opinions are 100% my own and these truly are my favorite products made with recycled materials.

When it comes to products made from recycled materials I get pretty geeky. I mean, I really get giddy and may husband often tells me to calm down. With being a true believer in small changes making a big difference, recycling is one small change that I love. It’s a small change that can really benefit so many. For Earth Week I thought I would feature some of my favorite brands that I’ve come across who make items out of recycled materials.

Products Made with Recycled Materials

recycled batteries

  • Energizer EcoAdvanced Batteries – YES, batteries made out of recycled materials!!! Genius, right?! Energizer EcoAdvanced doesn’t compromise performance—it is Energizer’s longest lasting alkaline battery, and creates less impact on the environment because it requires less mining in the manufacturing process. And because it lasts longer, consumers use fewer batteries and create less waste. From a recent press release:

Energizer is committed to bringing positive energy to the world by creating less waste and working toward a future where recycling is more broadly available. Energizer EcoAdvanced is the first step in creating value for recycled battery material, which until today has had little or no economic value.

I have so much respect for Energizer and I’ve become a life-long customer because of their commitment. For many years, Energizer has been working to find the best solution to collect and recycle primary batteries in an environmentally positive way, and the company is committed to working toward a future where recycling is more broadly available to consumers. We’ve used EcoAdvanced batteries in game controllers, toys, remote controls, our thermostat and they are amazing! They last and they are dependable!

recycled toy train

  • Green Toys – Another genius idea. I love their toys and knowing the company cares about our Earth. Green Toys Inc. makes an awesome line of classic children’s toys constructed from recycled plastic and other environmentally friendly materials. This helps reduce fossil fuel use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improving the overall health and happiness of the planet – and guess what? KIDS LOVE THEM!!!

Record clock

  • Vinylux’s Record Clocks – my husband and I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s and remember records fondly.  We also live just outside of Motown so this particular items hold a special place in our hearts as it reminds us of home. Vinylux gets its supply of recycled vinyl from record shops, dealers, collectors and in some cases, from people’s attics. Every year, they recycle and reuse approximately 150,000 records or almost 40,000 pounds of material. Vinylux does not throw away any part of the record: album covers are converted into sketchbooks and notecards, and leftover material is collected by paper recyclers. I love their items!! How cool are they!?!?

Patagonia Better Clog Fall 2013

  • Patagonia Shoes are another favorite of mine! They make shoes for all seasons that are comfortable and they care about our Earth! Yes, pleas!! Cover my feet any day. Many of Patagonia’s shoes are made of recycled materials. Eco insulation technology combines 50% recycled material with PrimaLoft virgin fibers to create a high-loft, thermally efficient insulation. A number of their soles are made with Ecostep, a Vibram®-formulated compound that uses up to 30% recycled scrap rubber that would otherwise be thrown away.  Recycled Rubber – Flashing is the excess rubber that squeezes out between the parts of a mold when compressed. We collect flashing rubber off the factory floor and use it in some of our outsoles – up to 20% of the rubber in our recycled rubber outsoles is flashing rubber.

Re-Play Dishes

  • Re-Play Dishes for Kids – We love these in our house. They are sturdy and colorful for lots of luck with kids! Their products are made from recycled HDPE, which is #2 plastic, and is BPA free, Phthalate Free, PVC free. Because it’s made from #2, HDPE plastic – basically that means Milk jugs!  Did you know that recycling a 1-gallon plastic milk jug will save enough energy to keep a 100-watt bulb burning for 11 hours? Their color concentrate is safe for food contact and all the ingredients in the colors are FDA approved!

I told you I get excited about products made from recycled materials!!! Don’t you!? What’s your favorite from my list? Or even outside of my list?

Happy Earth Week! Celebrate by purchasing items made with recycled materials!
