5 Reasons Why You Should Change to Reusable Menstrual Products

This post was created as part of the SckoonCup Review Campaign in which I am a financially compensated blogger. The opinions are my own and based on my own experience.

After being on my mission to make small changes for my family to be more green, up until one year ago I wouldn’t even consider reusable menstrual products as a greener option for myself. I was among to majority who had in my mind that it was “gross”. Late last spring I made the change to reusable cloth pads as my first step in greening my menstrual cycle. Now, I’m here to tell you about my recent experience with the SckoonCup Menstrual Cup and why I think you should change to resusable menstrual products to green your period, too!

Why you should switch to reusable menstrual products

There are many reasons I can think of to use reusable menstrual products. After much thought and personal experience with these products, I want to highlight the top five reasons why I love them and feel they are great options for women!

  1. There is no running out of product at inconvenient times. You don’t have to run to the store (or send your SO in the middle of the night) when your period surprises you are day or two early. You are always prepared with your reusable products at home! As a bonus, no running out means you’ll save money! You won’t have the added expense of buying disposable pads or tampons every month!
  2. It’s time to green your period. Having reusable menstrual products like the SckoonCup will help you lower your impact on the environment as you won’t be tossing pads or tampons monthly.
  3. Free yourself of toxins and chemicals found in disposable menstrual products. The ChemFatale report can give you more information about the toxins and chemicals found in the disposable products but to really just put it out there, do you want chemicals and toxins right up in/next to your personal area? No, thank you!
  4. Reusable menstrual products are easier than you think! I recently tried the SckoonCup menstrual cup for the first time. After a few months of using it and getting adjusted to it I’m here to tell you it’s easy and amazing! The SckoonCup is made of a squishy medical grade silicone, which makes it easy to insert into place and remove. There are angled suction holes near the rim which provide the maximum capacity and protection which gives it less chance of leakage than other cups.  Made in the USA, the SckoonCup is constructed using one piece of silicone, never multiple pieces molded together, which helps this reliable, lasting and my cup of choice!
    • SckoonCup is available in two sizes: Size 1, for women who haven’t previously given birth vaginally and Size 2, for women who have given birth vaginally. I do recommend using a cloth pad liner until you really adjust to using the menstrual cup.
    • SckoonCup lasts up to 12 hours!
    • Retail price is $38.99, the cost of approximately four months of disposable menstrual products and it lasts forever!
    • You can’t even tell it’s there! I don’t even think about it when I have the cup in. I don’t feel it and it’s the most comfortable period I’ve ever had.
  5. No more crinkled up pads/tampons in the bottom of your purse. Admit it, they are there. I hated carrying them around and then get smashed and end up looking all crazy and then I have to use it if my period shows up? Ugh…no, thanks. No more of that with reusable products. You have the storage case you can toss your cup in to keep it clean and because it’s made of silicone, it won’t be all crinkled and smashed when you need it.

Go ahead, make the plunge! You’ll feel better about your period and it’s a much healthier option for your body! It’s definitely been one of the best things I’ve done for me in the past year in terms of overall health, freedom and comfort!
