Our home has been incredibly busy over the past month. Back to school has been crazy! You all know we have three going “back to school” this year and with LA starting preschool/pre-k, I wanted to take some time out from the craziness and enjoy some family time with a celebration to make back to school a big deal! With the variety of back to school ages in our home (hubby as a teacher, oldest son as a college student and youngest as a pre-k student) I knew I needed some creative card ideas so I headed to our local Walmart to get some greetings from the Hallmark value section!
You read that right, the Hallmark Value Section! Yes, Hallmark cards for .47 and .97! I’ve always loved Hallmark cards (yes, I’m one that looks at the back of cards I receive to see if they are Hallmark! lol) but this makes them even better, if that’s possible. There’s a wide selection, too! Take a look:
The kids love eating outside so I put together a small celebration with dinner and cake outside with some balloons and a few decorations to make it a real party! I really want LA to understand that back to school is a big deal and that it’s an accomplishment and school is something to be excited about so I knew this party was a great way to kick off the school year.
After dinner, I cleared the table and set up our cake and put the Hallmark greetings at the place settings of my husband and our oldest and youngest sons. I then had them open and read their cards, one at a time.
For my husband, I wanted to get a card that expressed how proud of him I am. I definitely needed a some creative card ideas here because they don’t really make a back to school card for your husband, you know? 😉 I got him a card that told him I was proud of him for being the amazing teacher he is and for getting up and going to work every day no matter how tough his students can be, to let his spirit guide him in getting through his school year.
For my oldest son, I got him a card that told him congratulations and I am proud of him! He’s been through a lot for a young man and I’m proud that he is continuing his education in college.
I also picked up a few other cards while I was there. My father just had quadruple heart bypass surgery last week so I wanted to get a him a card letting him know we are thinking about him and sending get well wishes since we can’t be there with him. I also have a friend that is going through a tough time right now so I wanted to get her a card to let her know I’m thinking of her. All of these creative card ideas were found in the Hallmark value section at Walmart for under $5!
Oh yes, it gets even better than value cards from Hallmark! There’s a Hallmark Card Rewards Program that you can use with these value cards! For every 5 cards you buy, you’ll earn a reward! It’s a very simple program to use and you can even use an app on your smartphone to scan the bar code to get credit for your purchase!
