Pregnancy Journal – 19 Weeks and Some Pregnancy Challenges

Last week I had some exciting things to share. This week I have some pregnancy challenges to share. Pregnancy has its’ ups and downs, right? I’m ready for this week to be good after last week and I’m hoping I don’t have to constantly worry about whether or not what I eat is going to bother me later.

Baby’s Size This Week: (from BabyCenter.com) Your baby’s sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don’t be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.

Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of an heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

How am I feeling? This past week has been rough. I felt all week like I was coming down with something. Pregnancy challenges are NOT fun. I had constant sinus/allergy problems. I had issues sleeping because of congestion. Monday night I went to bed with what felt like heart burn. Not uncommon for me during pregnancy so I thought nothing of it. Each time I turned over, I felt the heart burn and an achy feeling in my stomach when I turned over. In the middle of the night I had to sit up because I was in pain and laying down made it worse. I ended up going to the couch and sitting for some time and I remember thinking that if I were further along I would have thought I was in labor. The pain was bad! I was getting ready to tell hubby I needed to go to the ER but I went to the restroom first and while there I ended up throwing up. Afterwards, I felt 85% better. I had chili for dinner Monday night and I really think it was a bad acid reflux attack. Although the chili wasn’t spicy, it was full of tomato-y type stuff. That is something I DO NOT want to experience again so I changed the whole menu plan for the week to not make anything that might affect me. I’m still scared to eat anything that might bother me.

Outside of that, I’m still pretty tired.

Food Cravings/Aversions: I’ve been wanting chocolate milkshakes this past week! Yum!!!

Sleep: Sleep has been normal (waking for restroom trips and tossing and turning often) other than Monday night.

Baby’s Movement: I am pretty sure I am feeling baby now! <3  Light  movements here and there but she’s letting me know she’s there!

Weight: I lost one pound this week. I need to double check my starting weight with the doctor’s office but I am pretty sure my entire weight gain is at five pounds or below so far. I’m happy with this since I was overweight to begin with. 🙂

Next Appointment: OB appointment this week! I was supposed to go this past Friday, but my doctor had a family emergency and the appointment was rescheduled for this week.

What happened this week? Other than not feeling well? We took the kids to see The Wiggles so that was fun to get out, although we had to leave early since Addy missed her nap and wasn’t too happy about being there after 45 minutes.

Something that upset me: I’ve been very moody this week. I’ve been getting mad at hubby for crazy reasons and feeling super needy. I think I go through this stage with every pregnancy. lol Poor guy.

Something I am looking forward to: When the doctor’s office called to reschedule my appointment, I was also able to schedule my 20 weeks ultrasound!! It’s in less than 2 weeks and I’m getting really excited!  Also looking forward to a four day weekend coming up soon!

Boy or Girl? Those strong feelings I had early on about gender proved to be right!!! We’re having a girl!!!!!!!! I even bought a piece of girl clothing a bit over a month ago because I just KNEW we were having a girl! <3 Sometimes I wish I could have been patient and waited til birth, but overall I’m so happy we found out baby’s gender!

Countdown: 21 weeks to go if we go to 40 weeks!
