Packing for a Family Break (Guest Post)

Packing the essentials for a family holiday can be prove to be a bit of a rigmarole – especially when you’re put in charge of organising the brood and ensuring that everyone has packed all the necessities. Sometimes, it’s easier to just do it yourself and with the help of a handy checklist, you can be done in no time.

Travelling with children, whether it’s to one of the lovely UK breaks or abroad, can be a stressful time if you don’t think ahead. You need to ensure that every base is covered, in plenty of time. For example, check the passports and make sure they’re in date in advance, so that you’re not rushing to an emergency appointment the day before you fly.

If you’re staying within the UK, make sure you have plenty of things to keep the kids occupied during the car journey, especially if you are going to be spending a few hours on the road. All parents will be familiar with the sounds of “are we nearly there yet?” and “I need a wee!” but if they have things such as books, toys and portable consoles to keep them busy, the journey will likely go faster. Enjoying a UK break has plenty of advantages, not least of which is the ability to pack into your car as much as you like rather than having to stick to airline allowances. Enter the Cushelle competition and you could even win your break so that you don’t have to spend on accommodation and all you’d have to worry about is the petrol and spending money.

As far as packing is concerned, make sure that you pack accordingly. You will likely need various layers and a waterproof jacket if you’re staying in the UK, just in case the weather takes a turn for the worse, while many abroad destinations still provide wonderful sunshine at this time of year, giving you the chance to pack light.

As long as you stay organized and stick to a list, packing for your family break will be as stress-free as possible. All you have to think about then, is enjoying yourself!

  1. packing is the hardest part of any trip. I find now that I have 3 kids I always forget something. I try and make a list but, for some reason it never works out.
