Have you heard about Unilever’s sustainable living plan? It’s something we can all look up to and something we can aim for, too!

In November 2010 we launched our Sustainable Living Plan. The Plan complements our Compass strategy and commits us to three significant outcomes by 2020: to help more than one billion people take action to improve their health and well-being; to halve the environmental footprint of the making and use of our products; and, to source 100% of our agricultural raw materials sustainably.

See, Unilever is all about Making Life Better! In a recent post, I shared with you about Unilever’s Cross off Hunger campaign and my goal over the holiday visits we would be having with family. To do my part in helping to Cross off Hunger with Feeding America, my husband and I got the word out to family members that we would be collecting items for a shelter at our family Christmas celebrations. We did share with them Unilever’s plan and commitment and asked that they bring some Unilever products if possible! :)

First, we went shopping to start our donation pile. While we were there we also picked up some of our favorite Unilever products to use at home. You can take a look at our whole shopping trip and more on our Google+ album but here’s what we purchased:

Unilever Products Shopping Trip

The items we planned on donating included the following:

  • VO5 Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Vaseline Lotion
  • Lipton Tea Bags
  • Lipton Flavored Tea Mix-Ins
  • Knorr Noodles
  • Dove Men’s Soap
  • Dove Body Wash
  • Vaseline
  • Skippy Peanut Butter
  • Ragu Pasta Sauce

The Unilever products we needed at home and bought on this trip:

  • Dove soap
  • Bertolli Frozen Meals
  • Bertolli Organic Pasta Sauce

Unilever At Home

We use more Unilever products around our house than I thought when I really got to looking. Above, you can see my desk at work where I have my Lipton Brisk and Vaseline.

Unilever at Home

Here you see a few of the products we use at home. Some of the products we use regularly at home are: Country Crock butter, I Can’t Believe it’s Not Butter, Bertolli Frozen Meals, Bertolli Pasta Sauce, Dove Men’s Soap, Dove Soap, Vaseline products, Lipton teas, Knorr Noodles, and Skippy Natural Peanut Butter. There are so many Unilever products that we love, I’m sure I’ve left some out! Take a look at some of the products we use and what we do with them around our house:

Bertolli Made Fast

I have talked before about how limited my time is on the days I work outside of the home. Bertolli Frozen Meals have been a true help! They taste amazing and they are done in 10 minutes! Sometimes I don’t get home until 7pm so these meals are so appreciated in this house! See how delicious they look?

The side picture shows my recycle container in the kitchen. I regularly recycle all containers from the kitchen that I can and that includes Country Crock and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter containers, Bertolli Pasta Sauce glass jars, Lipton boxes, and more! If you aren’t currently recycling, please do. Every little bit that each person does adds up and together, we can make a bigger difference.

Donate Unilever Finally, on the right you see we started boxing up the donations we received as well as the ones we purchased as we got ready to make a trip to the shelter to donate them.

Speaking of the donations to help Cross off Hunger, I was thrilled with the results! The picture below is everything we collected. Some family members didn’t remember to bring items, but others did and I think we got a good amount of stuff and the shelter was thrilled with our donations, too! I’m so glad we were able to help them out! Each month I’ll be collecting certain items to donate, asking friends and family to give a little so that together, we can make a big difference!

Let’s Get #BetterTogether

In 2013, I encourage you to live more sustainably. Unilever has pledged to “help more than one billion people take action to improve their health and well-being; to halve the environmental footprint of the making and use of our products; and, to source 100% of our agricultural raw materials sustainably”. I am inspired and will continue my efforts to live sustainably by recycling everything I can in our home, I’m going to change my diet so I can feel better and get healthier, and I pledge to continue donating monthly to at least one organization and spend time with myself to improve my own well-being. All of us need that.
