One of my favorite sweet treats is chocolate covered strawberries! YUM! Buying them from retailers or online companies and having them delivered can be costly! With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I wanted to share with you this favorite treat of mine! These are also loved by my husband and he loves even more that I made them myself! Do something sweet this Valentine’s Day and treat your sweetie to some delicious chocolate covered strawberries!

Here’s my quick and easy DIY!

Rinse Strawberries

I always soak the berries for about 5 minutes. Once the berries are cleaned off, I dry the berries and pull the tops so the leaves are all pointed up as much as possible. You’ll use these to help in the dipping process so it’s best to have them up! I also cut off any not so great looking areas before dipping. This does not affect how the chocolate sticks to the berry.

Chocolate Time!

While the berries are soaking, I get the goodies for dipping ready IF I am going to add something besides chocolate. Many times I use just chocolate and to me, those are the best but my hubby likes goodies on his! I melt the chocolate in a pan. I keep the heat on the stove top as low as possible. You have to be patient and wait for the chocolate. If you turn the temperature too high the chocolate will start to burn. I personally use Dove Milk Chocolate because it’s our favorite! I just melt the pieces and keep stirring – very important to keep stirring! When it’s 3/4 of the way melted I remove it from the low heat and keep stirring until it’s smooth enough to dip the berries.

Dipping Berries in Goodies

Once the chocolate is melted I dip the berries holding them with the stems if possible. After the chocolate I dip them in the goodies! We chose nuts, sprinkles and caramel this time. The nuts and sprinkles I just dipped the berries into the goody, the caramel I drizzled over the berry once on the cookie sheet.  After dipping, I put the berries on a foil lined cookie sheet and put in the fridge for a couple of hours before indulging!

These are not treats that you can make far in advance. The berries do not last long once they are covered. I would say 24 hours ahead of time at most, the sooner you eat them after fridge time, the better! :) Much longer than 24 hours and the berries start leaking fluids and the chocolate gets messy from the berries.
