Winter Fun with Green Kids Crafts (Giveaway)

Winter is upon us! We’ve really noticed the temperatures dropping in the recent weeks and now we are left looking for fun things to do inside. Our little guy LOVES the outside so it’s been a challenge to find things inside to occupy him and keep him happy. He often does craft type projects at daycare and they’ve always said how much he enjoys them, so my answer was a subscription box away!

Green Kids CraftsI was thrilled at the opportunity to discover Green Kids Crafts. I had heard a lot about the company but had never really looked into it. Wow, was I missing out! Green Kids Crafts is the original maker of kids’ craft subscription boxes. They are are a mom-owned, green company that provides sustainable crafts for kids. Sounds great, doesn’t it?!

Green Kids Crafts have partnered with Purple Asparagus, a nonprofit educating children, families and the community about eating that’s good for the body and the planet, to create a November “Food Adventures” themed box with crafts celebrating healthy eating. Craft projects include making a fish game (from recycled felt), growing organic basil and alfalfa sprout gardens, and making a rainbow tile coaster.  In addition, Green Kid Crafts has partnered with Mambo Sprouts and some of our favorite natural food companies like Annie’s, Stonyfield, Mary’s Gone Crackers and Immaculate Baking to include samples and exclusive coupons for free healthy snacks — a $20+ value!

I was more than impressed with Green Kids Crafts and found that I enjoyed this box as much as my son did!

The first thing that caught my eye when I opened the box were the COUPONS! If you’ve been around here, you know I love saving money any time I can and the coupons in this box were WONDERFUL! There was a variety of coupons for organic/natural products, which made this mama VERY happy! Organic grocery shopping isn’t the cheapest so any savings is totally appreciated! Also included was a snack for LA to eat, which was organic: Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies! Yum! He loved them! Now let’s get to the main point of this box: the craft projects!

Green Kids Packages

There were THREE craft projects included: a fishing game, an organic basil garden/sprout garden and a tile coaster. Each project is packaged separately and is very organized and easy to understand. The individual packages each include directions for that specific craft project. Each craft took us about 20-30 minutes to complete and LA LOVED the fishing game and coaster. He wasn’t too in to the garden items, but I think he’s still a bit young for those.

Take a look at these GREAT facts about the Green Crafts Kids subscription boxes:

  • Our Discovery Boxes are different each month, but our sourcing principles stay the same.
  • They offset 100% of the carbon dioxide generated by their business and help fund the development of renewable energy projects across the US.
  • Their boxes are 100% recycled. They use recycled labels and envelopes for shipping.
  • They integrate eco-awareness into their craft themes as much as possible.
  • They minimize packaging and printing and use recycled materials wherever they can.
  • They bundle materials using plant-based, compostable clear bags.
  • They avoid craft foams and plastics.
  • They ensure craft supplies can be composted, recycled and/or reused whenever possible.
  • They give back. A minimum if 1% of sales is donated to environmental organizations through their membership in 1% for the Planet.

Winter Fun

Our little guy loved these crafts! His favorite was the coaster that we made together. The package instructions had the great idea of sorting the tiles in color piles first. This was great since we are working on teaching him colors right now! After we sorted the colors, he worked on putting the tiles in a line (middle picture) while I put glue on the board. We then put the tiles on the coaster, six across, six down. He loved selecting which color of tile to use next and figuring out just where to place it on his piece of art!
Green Kids CoasterYou can see the completed coaster above! He was so proud of this art project and just had to show daddy as soon as he got home from work. Right after we finished, he just kept looking down and smiling at his project. It was great seeing him enjoy something so much! It was fun for both of us and it kept his attention. It wasn’t a long project, it took us about 20 minutes, which was the perfect amount of time!

I am very interested in getting more Green Kids Craft boxes – especially throughout these winter months! With snow storms and incredibly cold temps, these boxes will still give us that winter fun we need!
