Babywearing is something near and dear to my heart. I wish I had known about it when my oldest (now 16) was a baby and toddler. I learned about it when I was pregnant with my now two-year old son and knew it was something I wanted to do. I wore him in wraps shortly after he was born and graduated to soft structured carriers as he got older. Now that I have another baby (almost 7 months), I wear her, too. In fact, we’ve become a babywearing family and it isn’t uncommon to see my husband and myself wearing our two little ones when we are out and about. I’ve even had my 16 year old wear his little brother, see…a babywearing family indeed!
Onya Baby is a small, family-owned company that believes what I believe: “babywearing (and baby carriers) are essential parenting tools that allow parents to continue living life after their baby is born while including their baby in their daily activities”. Every pregnant woman I have known or have met since I was pregnant in 2010 hears all about babywearing and it’s benefits from me! I am a huge advocate of babywearing and love sharing it with others. Onya Baby was born out of one mother’s desire to combine two items: a baby carrier and a baby travel seat. Like any mother, she needed to reduce the number of items she was toting around and thought this was the perfect combination of two items! I’d have to agree with that mama!
Onya Baby has respectable manufacturing ethics and they are part of the Baby Carrier Industry Alliance.
I am always up for trying a new carrier and telling you all about my findings. A few months ago I was sent an Onya Baby Cruiser to review and I was excited because this was the first (and only) carrier that I’ve reviewed that has more than one use! That’s right, mamas, this carrier can be used for both front and back babywearing as well as a chair harness for when you are out and about! We (all too) often eat at restaurants or stop for ice cream on walks to the park so I was really excited about this additional feature, but that’s not all! This carrier is loaded with extras! Read on!
Let’s talk about the details first! The Cruiser is available in two color combinations: Dove Grey/Chocolate Chip and Leaf Green/Raw Umber. I love that the choices are both gender neutral because in our case we use it both both boy and girl. The material is 100% brushed cotton and is honestly ranked in the top two of the softest structured carriers that I have tried. This carrier is designed for babies three months and older who are above 15 pounds. The maximum weight is 45 pounds. The waist belt can be adjusted from 25″ to 45″ and waist extenders are available. I am not a small woman and this carrier does fit me comfortably without waist extenders, however, if I gain more weight I may need them!
The shoulder straps can be adjusted from 17″ for petite wearers to 36″.
This amazing carrier also has lower webbing of the shoulder straps that can be adjusted and will give an extra 7″ of length to the shoulder straps if needed (see picture to the left). It can be worn by those small (the inventor is 5’2″), medium, big and tall and all in between. My husband is 6’3″ (and slim) and I am 5″10″ (and thick – I won’t say fat! LOL) and it fits both of us incredibly well! There are also several different ways of wearing this carrier, making it easy for everyone to find the comfort needed in a carrier!
As I said earlier, my husband and I have both worn this carrier numerous times! We both love the fit and we can comfortably wear the little ones on front or back! the additional features that we use regularly make this carrier the only item you will need on walks to the park, ice cream shop, the mall or anywhere else!
I say that because there is a front pocket large enough to hold ID, a cell phone, money, credit cards or any other personal items needed while out.
It also has toy loops on each shoulder strap to give baby entertainment at arms reach. So, you can carry baby, personal items and toys all while having a chair harness in tow as well!
There are two ways you can wear the Onya Baby carrier when using it for a front carry. The above picture shows the cross strap position. This was my absolute favorite and was most comfortable for me, however, baby Addy preferred the next carry. You can see in the above picture that she was tight against mama, which she is fine with if we aren’t out and about where there are new things to see!
She often fell asleep like this when being carried around the house!
The above picture is the second way of wearing the carrier with a front position. You simply put the should straps over your shoulders, snap in the back and tighten the should straps. You can see I was able to put baby Addy’s arms out (so she could easily access the toys) or in and she was comfortable both ways.
As I have talked about so often before, our two year old LOVES to be worn. He has been worn since he was a newborn and it really soothes and comforts him. The above pictures are of my husband wearing him on the back. This is quite the common scene when we go for a walk!
You can see in the above photo that the section around his legs is padded, perfect for protection and comfort!
This is our almost 7 month old baby Addy in the chair harness. I LOVE how it holds her. I love not having to worry about high chairs in a restaurant (especially since she swims in them at this point) and I love how safety was number one when designing this! The top right shows the harness goes up under her arms. The bottom right shows the back of the chair and how the straps are snapped and tightened for safety. The bottom left shows how there is a safety strap that attaches to the table so when baby Addy’s legs get longer she can’t push herself away from the table and tip herself over.
My Final Thoughts: I LOVE this carrier if you couldn’t tell. The designers have thought of everything when making it safe and easy for mamas, needing nothing else but this carrier on outings. I love that I can carry my personal items in the pocket, my baby in the carrier and have a chair harness for her if we stop for something to eat or drink! Having the toy accessory is an added bonus! I honestly cannot even think of one thing I would improve on this carrier. It’s become one of our favorites for sure! I want another one so I don’t have to fight my husband for this carrier!

What’s not to like! Have been researching carriers for a couple weeks now, trying on different ones when I can, and really wish someone in town had this one, because do far it’s a front runner. Front and back carrier with zippered pockets that can also be a seat (hate dirty high chairs at restaurants)- AWESOME!

My wife loves this so I am trying to win it for her for her birthday! One of her favorite features is all the pockets.
I love that it turns into a chair harness .

I like the position for the legs and the gender neutral colors!

I wish I had one of these! I think this is a great product
I came to read this post because as a first time-expecting mommy, I am in the market for a baby carrier and this is one I had never heard of. I am really impressed! I haven’t seen some of these features in any other carriers I’ve seen–especially the chair feature. Thanks for this review and for introducing me to the Onya!
You are welcome!
Onya is one of my favorites and we still use it regularly!
I’ve seen posts about these carriers lately. They look really cool and comfortable. Does it take a lot of effort to adjust it from a carrier to a seat restraint?
I like this carrier would love to get one for my daughter. I like that it is light weight and fits to a chair. Thanks
I would love for my daughter to have one of these. It looks more durable than others I have seen. Thanks for sharing this product.
This looks like the perfect baby carrier. We are expecting our first grandchild and I have found that there are so many baby carriers on the market now – back when I had my first child, the carriers were hand made and you had to know someone to get one.
Wow, this looks really comfortable and I love that it is also for the chair too! Great review and I love the pictures as well.
