As I have mentioned before, our little boy has asthma. He was diagnosed around 9 months old with what is called “viral induced asthma”. Viral induced asthma normally only pops up when the person gets a cold or any other type of viral illness. With this diagnosis we’ve learned that for our little guy there is no such thing as a simple cold. Every cold he gets is a big deal and most times ends up with breathing treatments. Although I am relieved that he doesn’t have full fledged asthma, even the viral induced asthma can be very scary and makes me truly understand how serious asthma is.
Asthma Sense App

AsthmaSense is an app that was developed for better asthma management, in fact, it MAY even help prevent asthma attacks. AsthmaSense™ is available for a very reasonable $3.99 at these app stores:

What makes this app so convenient is that it’s right on your iPhone or smart phone and who doesn’t always have their phone with them these days? The app helps by allowing you to easily keep a journal that reminds you to take your medication or test your breathing. I know I have had to set alarms on my phone to remember things like medicine so I know how important an app for these reminders is! What exactly does this app do?

One screen does it all. Learn more about this potentially life saving app:
  • Easy to use for asthma management at any time
  • For use with children or adults
  • Set reminders for medication use and peak flow testing
  • See when medications are due
  • Log diary actions quickly with a single tap
  • Record asthma symptoms and breathing function
  • Selectively silence reminders as needed
  • Select reminder tones for individual users
  • Record unscheduled medication use
  • Record missed medications, as well as edit or update the journal
  • Review up to one month of peak flow, asthma symptoms and medication adherence
  • Receive status alerts when your asthma is “not well controlled” or “poorly controlled” according to National Institute for Health guidelines
  • Keep emergency contact information and phone numbers in easy reach
  • Manage one or multiple users with one smartphone
Since asthma can be hereditary chances are there are more than one person in your home with asthma. The genius thing about this app is that it allows for tracking of multiple people’s asthma! You can see if you’ve taken your medication over the past five days and you can recall up to two months worth of information! AsthmaSense will let you know when your asthma is poorly controlled or not well controlled and you can even share information with health care providers and family members to better assist you in managing your asthma!
Technology has come a long way and having apps like this that can assist us in keeping track of such vital information is truly a wonderful thing! I know we have to be on “pins and needles” during cold and flu season so I can only imagine how those that deal with asthma every day must feel. This is a fabulous app to help make it more manageable!
