If you’ve been around my blog for a while, you know that LA has eczema. His is very mild and only in the cooler months does he gets patches of eczema on his legs and arms. We recently discovered baby Addy has eczema as well, and hers seems to be worse than big brother’s. We are always on the lookout for products we can use to treat the eczema. Exederm, which is specifically formulated for those with eczema and/or sensitive skin is something we often use. If you aren’t familiar with eczema, it’s an extreme dry skin condition and has been known to itch and appear as patches on the skin. Eczema is an old Greek and Latin word that means inflammation of the skin. Exederm raises the bar for hypoallergenic and sensitive skin care. They avoid common chemical irritants found in many skin care products, chemicals that can bother eczema. Exederm is free of all of the following: fragrance, parabens, lanolin, propylene glycol, color, dyes, sodium laureth sulfate, cocamidoproryl betaine and phthalates. Exederm has also been honored by the National Eczema Association with the “Seal of Acceptance” award.

We were sent five Exederm products for review. I like to use bath/body products on my little ones for several weeks during a review just to really get a feel for how their skin is going to react to the products. Let me tell you about the products we received and how they worked for us.

Exederm Bath Bath

The Baby Eczema Wash gently cleanses delicate skin, is non-drying and soap free. It is an ultra-sensitive, non-irritating cleanser that is great for children of all ages. We use this regularly in both LA and baby Addy’s baths.

The Baby Eczema Lotion moisturizes and smooths dry skin, soothes red, cracked or itchy skin, is ultra sensitive and non-irritating, is lightweight and great for children of all ages.

The Baby Eczema Shampoo helps to keep your little one’s scalp and hair clean as well as healthy. It’s itch free and tear free: very important when bathing babies! It is also suitable for cradle cap, which we’ve been experiencing with baby Addy in the past few months. This is also an ultra sensitive and non-irritating formula.

Exederm Eczema CreamThe Baby Eczema Cream is great for deeply moisturizing baby’s dry, delicate skin! It soothes red, cracked or itchy skin and is light AND non-greasy making it popular with both my husband and I when putting moisturizer on the kids! This is also an ultra sensitive and non-irritating formula.

The final product in our review kit was the Exederm Flair Control Cream. I wasn’t sure we were going to get a chance to use this because LA’s eczema only flairs up in the winter. We actually got the chance recently when we discovered that baby Addy has a more severe case of eczema than LA has. She had a pretty bad flair up and this cream worked pretty fast and I was impressed! We’ll definitely be keeping this on hand!

Exederm has many products available including the following: cream, lotion, oil, shampoo, the wash and the flair control cream. I was a little unsure of what to expect with Exederm. After learning about all of the things that weren’t in the products (that I was very happy about) I was primarily hesitant about what it would smell like. I have smelled many skin care products and some of them are horrible and make you not even want to put them on your skin. I was pleasantly surprised with the smell. It is, of course, not a flowery smell or anything like that; but it’s not horrible. The lotion goes on very easily and rubs in great! It’s light but still very effective! Both of our little ones’ skin has felt very soft recently after using these for the past  several weeks. The bath wash does not have the exact scent of the lotion, and although I don’t love it, I can live with it. It has a thin consistency and is clear. The eczema flair control cream is not difficult to use at all. It’s easy to apply and rubs in nicely. We were overall rather pleased with all of the Exederm products!

Purchase Exederm: You can purchase Exederm directly from their website, on Amazon, at Buy Buy Baby, or at Target (online only), among many other retail locations.
