When I was in high school and college I was a runner. I loved running: it was a passion of mine. In college I ran 10 miles a day. In fact, I ran 10 miles every day until I was almost five months pregnant with my oldest son. My doctor encouraged me to continue running but I just didn’t do it. And I haven’t ran like that since then. That was 16 years ago. Do I miss it? Most definitely.

Running was my time for me. It was time to be alone with my thoughts and clear my mind. It also helped in keeping me a very fit young woman. Since I’ve stopped running over these past 16 years and three babies later I am 100 pounds heavier than I was in those days. Wow, did I just say that? Sixteen years, 100 pounds and a lot of changes later here I am ready to start on a Go Green Get Fit Challenge.

“Because there is No Difference between
               Personal Health and Environmental Health”

Most of you know that my two youngest babies are both under two (I can say that for one more month!). That along with working full time, being a wife, a blogger and trying to keep up with laundry and housework have prevented me from exercising and eating the way I know I should. The Go Green, Get Fit Challenge is a reason for me to get back into activities (maybe not running right away!) and healthier eating for my family and myself.

My Goals for this Challenge:
1) Exercise (most likely walking) four times each week.
2) Increase my walking distance so that at the end of this 12 weeks journey I’ll be able to walk 6 miles without a problem!
3) Eat more meals at home with healthier ingredients.
4) Lose a total of 25 pounds throughout this 12 weeks.
5) Run again….I don’t have a distance in mind, I just want to start running again and I want to feel like I can do it without passing out because I am so out of shape!
6) Find an event to complete near the end of this challenge, a 5k walk or something similar.

Just to give you a better idea of what this challenge is about I copied these program goals and focus areas from the Healthy Home Magazine site, which is published by Erin, the person responsible for putting this awesome group together!

Program Goals:
  • ›To Nurture the Women Who Nurture their Families and our World.
  • ›To support women in taking Better Care of Them Selves and give them the tools to make health and wellness a permanent and sustainable priority in their lives
