When my oldest was born I didn’t hear or see anything about babywearing. I never knew about it so I never wore him. Fast forward 14 years to when I was pregnant with LA in 2010 and I heard a lot about it. I was curious and read up on it. After some research I knew I wanted to wear LA. Shortly after he was born I wore him in a wrap and loved it. As he got older I used structured carriers but my back often hurt so I didn’t do it as much as I wanted. He loved being worn though. He was always incredibly calm. My husband even got in on the baby wearing a few times and wore LA. Having had Baby Addy in February the feeling came back that I wanted to wear my little ones again.
I started looking into baby carriers and I was incredibly excited to find Action Baby Carriers. A very exciting thing to me is that these carriers are made right here in my home state of Michigan! Voted one of the top 10 Must Have Baby Carriers for 2011 by iVillage.com, Action Baby Carriers are known for being comfortable and stylish! They are light weight, soft structured carriers that were designed to work as front and back carriers and best of all? They were designed for infants as well as toddlers! That’s perfect for us since we have Baby Addy who is now nearly 12 weeks old, and LA who is 21-months old!
Action Baby Carriers was actually created from the idea for a gift when the founder, Angela, had some family members having babies. She wanted to make them a carrier and did just that. Her first carriers took her 8-9 hours to make and were a mei tai style carrier. Teaming up with her math wiz husband, they were able to get the process down to 1.5 hours and she started taking orders online and had instant success with 35 orders in one night after posting the question asking if anyone wanted to buy a baby carrier!
I know many of you are baby wearers so I know you are excited to hear about this carrier! Let me first go over some of the great features of this carrier in case you’ve not heard of it. The carriers are made in the USA. They have a very simple to use sleeping hood. The hip belt adjusts from 28″ to 53″ without an extender belt, which is larger than some of the other soft structured carriers I’ve seen. The carrier is intended for infants and toddlers up to 40 pounds! Another great feature about the Action Baby Carrier is that it folds into a compact size that will fit into a diaper bag for easily toting around the carrier with you! The straps can also be worn backpack style or criss-cross style. It has some amazing features, doesn’t it? Let’s take a look at the fit now.
This is me wearing LA in the carrier. He loves being worn as I mentioned earlier. He is about 33 inches tall and weighs 26 pounds. He is a skinny little boy but he fits great in this carrier. There were never any marks left on his arms or legs from being in this carrier, a definite plus!
This is him again with his arms out. He likes both ways and seems comfortable with his arms in or out! I never felt like he was falling or anything while wearing him, it felt very secure.
Now this is the front carry with our Baby Addy, who is about 12 pounds and 12 weeks old. She also loves being worn and falls asleep very easily with this carrier! The only thing I worried about when wearing her was that her legs were getting smashed. Her legs aren’t quite long enough to go out to the sides when wearing her so they were just kind of tucked underneath her. She didn’t seem to mind though and I could tell she still loved it and must have been comfortable.
I love that the straps are easy to adjust too in order to go from wearing my toddler to wearing my infant. It takes literally seconds.
This is a front-on view of Baby Addy in the carrier with the sleeping hood up. The hood is incredibly easy to use and can be done easily by one person while wearing baby. It covers baby enough to block light rain or snow if you are walking, and it helps in blocking the sun as well! It of course wouldn’t cover older toddlers as well, but most times I’ve found our toddler doesn’t sleep when being worn and we never use the hood anyway. It works great with Baby Addy but if I could add just one thing, I would like to see this hood wrap around baby’s head a bit more. Maybe have some elastic added to the sides of the hood to make it wrap around instead of being straight.
The straps that go over my shoulders are very soft and comfortable. The material doesn’t feel stiff in any way and I am comfortable not only with the material and the fit on myself, but I am comfortable with this soft material up next to my babies. I am 5’10 and my husband is 6’2 and this carrier fits both of us very well! Let me tell you what I love most about this carrier: I wore Baby Addy for a couple of hours one day when we were out at a local park. I have a bad back that doesn’t take much to start hurting. The entire time I wore her in this carrier I was comfortable. She was comfortable. I never once felt like I had to sit down because my back was hurting. I have worn my little ones in other carriers and many times I have had aching in my back. I really believe that the criss-cross straps helped prevent a back ache. This carrier is amazing and has become my absolute favorite.
Another thing I love is that the design goes all the way down to the bottom of this carrier. I have another soft structured carrier from a different company and the design stops just above the waist belt.
I know that has nothing to do with the functionality of this carrier, but we mamas love to look at pretty designs and I appreciate that about this carrier!
Action Baby Carriers became very popular for being comfortable ad stylish, being made in the USA and also for being very affordable carriers. They have an amazing price compared to some other carriers on the market!

thanks for the advice on the action carrier, my husband and i are looking into getting one for our daughter and trying to decide which is best!
thanks for doing a review .. im looking into a carrier.. this one looks nice
I love how this carrier lasts for so long, and that it’s so easily adjustable with the straps. I think my hubby would be more willing to wear this than our mai tai, because it’s easier to put on
