I have a small obsession with shoes. When I came across kigo footwear I was so excited. Their shoes are lightweight and flexible, both features that I love in shoes! Not only that, they are stylish, yet sturdy enough for athletics! kigo is also committed to ecological accountability in everything they do! I have so much respect for companies that are aware of their effect on the environment and care enough to make a difference!
The idea for kigo footwear was born on a mountainside. Do you agree that most brilliant ideas are created out of need/want? I certainly think so and this is one company that backs up my thought! The creators of kigo were skiing and at the end of a long day they had sore feet that were stuck inside of heavy boots. That prevented them from being able to fully enjoy skiing so there, on that mountainside, they came up with the idea of creating durable, lightweight shoes! After that, they worked with customers, doctors, biomechanics specialists, and athletes in order to bring us the amazing kigo footwear products!
Just in time for Earth Day, I am thrilled to tell you how kigo footwear reduces their footprint in their business. They avoid extraneous travel by using video conferencing and telecommuting. They avoid unnecessary paper by using digital marketing materials. They package their shoes in only what is necessary to protect the shoes, not huge shiny boxes with a lot of packaging paper. kigo shoes and their packaging are crafted from a combination of recycled materials and environmentally friendly treatments. Huge thumbs up to kigo footwear for their awareness and for being a green company! We love ’em!
kigo kindly sent me the flit shoe in grey (with blue stitching) to review. I was so happy when the shoes arrived and they were NOT in a shoe box. They were wrapped in brown paper. Yes, that’s it! Outside of that, the green part of this shoe? Everything! They don’t come any greener than the kigo flit! The uppers and lining are made from an amazing fabric that is created by breaking down plastic jugs to create a four-way stretch textile that is strong and soft. The flit insoles and outsoles are crafted from a tough and lightweight product made from a combination of reclaimed post-consumer materials, post-manufacturing scrap and virgin material. The Mary Jane style goes with just about anything in your wardrobe! I have worn these shoes with jeans, capris, and even some black pants and a dressier shirt for work!
Not only are these shoes extremely green and versatile, they are incredibly comfy! The material is very flexible and I can barely tell I have any shoes on! I have worn these shoes so much since I received them and they never took me through that “new, gotta break me in” feeling. They were immediately comfy! They are quick and easy to put on, which is great for a mama of two under two like me! Getting the kids ready takes a lot of time and many times I find myself rushing out the door so shoes that are easy and quick are a big plus! Now that the weather has gotten nicer I have started walking and these shoes are great for that as well! They have not hurt my feet at all! They have quickly become my absolute favorite shoes! I love the grey color with blue stitching. That stitching is actually my favorite shade of blue so that was exciting to me! Yes, I got excited about stitching on a shoe! 🙂 These shoes are also available in black. kigo has several styles available and I cannot wait to try the curv too!
