#ClothWipesChallenge Day #1

I thought it was funny last week when I posted about my first time using cloth wipes and how I felt like I had to spray lots of wipes solution on the wipe and it still felt dry. Well, the funny part was that all of you (my wonderful readers) said to spray the solution right on baby’s bum. LOL  I think I was the only one who didn’t know that and it didn’t even cross my mind to do it like that! HAHA!!! Ok, so now that I spray the solution right on his bum it’s going a bit better! I have been using cloth off and on for the past week and as of today I vow to use only cloth wipes! It went well today. It does *seem* easier when we have a dirty diaper to think that I want to grab a disposable wipe, but boy have I enjoyed not digging the disposable wipes out of the dirty diaper. I can leave it all in one spot and the wipes go right in with the laundry! WOOHOO!  I do have to admit that’s been the nicest part.

As we were getting ready to leave today and I was double checking the contents of our diaper bag, I wanted to reach for our disposable wipes travel container! I had to remind myself that I am using cloth in the house AND out and about. There are no exceptions! Then I began thinking that I might need something to wipe up a mess or to wipe something off of LA’s face or hands and how I would normally use a disposable wipe for that! Wow, did I have to rethink my plan! Ok, ok….so I grabbed a few cloth wipes and our spray bottle of Blissful Booty wipes solution and in the diaper bag it went!  I hurried to leave the house after that so I wouldn’t think about it again and be tempted to grab our handy dandy disposable wipes travel case! It turned out that while we were out I didn’t even need to use them, so using cloth wipes while out and about is something I haven’t yet had to deal with. I am sure it will be soon enough and you know you’ll hear all about it!

So far, my switch to cloth wipes is going well! It makes me smile knowing that disposable wipes are one less item going into this family’s trash every week. How did day one go for you? Comment below and let me know! If you blogged about it, please leave a link and I’ll stop by! If I have enough people blogging about it, Friday when I do another update I’ll add a linky so we can all link up about the Cloth Wipes Challenge!  I’ll plan on writing updates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in case you want to join in!

The Cloth Wipes Challenge - Are You Ready?

  1. I’m sitting here laughing at myself. Murphy’s Law struck. I’m blogging about the cloth wipes challenge at http://izzyandjohnnys.blogspot.com . Glad to hear its going well for you though.

  2. Sounds like you’re off to a good start! I’m suppose to be taking this challenge with you! I guess I better get on it!

  3. Hi! I just found your blog a couple days ago and am enjoying it so far. I switched to cloth wipes a few weeks ago so I’m taking your challenge this month!

Here’s what I’m doing for the cloth wipes:
    1. I mix up a solution of water and a few drops of Burt’s Bees baby oil in a mason jar.
    2. Place 3-4 wipes (I use baby washcloths folded in half) in the wipes tub (I use a plastic refillable tub leftover from our disposable wipes)and pour some solution over the wipes until saturated to my liking.
    3. Repeat step 2 until all wipes are wet.
    4. I wash them with the diapers, but DON’T dry them since we’re just going to be getting them wet again anyway!

I probably use more solution doing it this way, but it’s mostly just water and I don’t have to pull out the squirt bottle every time. It is just like using disposables after the prep, which is really only a couple mins of work. When we go out, I put a few in the disposable wipes travel container. Easy peasy!

P.S. My husband was skeptical at first, but now he LOVES them! He actually likes them better than the disposables, especially for poopy diapers (he thinks they “grab the poop better”! 🙂

I don’t have children of any age but (I am 60)-those disposable diapers etc really have not been around all that long in the scheme of things!! I’m glad to hear people are reverting back to the good old days when actually people were a lot more environmentally conscience without realizing it lol. I have been following you for a while but came to say hello from Sunday Stalker!
