Our big change in 2010

The biggest thing we did in 2010 to lessen our carbon footprint was to use cloth diapers. I really wasn’t sure how this was going to work out, but it turns out I love cloth diapering LA (my youngest son). After learning that disposable diapers can stay in a landfill for up to 500 years, I really didn’t want to use them. Unfortunately we still have to use them for daycare and we keep some on hand at home in case we need them out of convenience, but I love days that we use cloth all day. Cloth diapers of today are no where near what one thinks of when you say “cloth diapers”. People seems to think of the cloth diapers that were used 40 years ago and they have come oh so far!!!  They are amazingly adorable and buying them can become addictive – I warn you! 🙂 I am also going to start using greener disposable options, such as gdiapers and get rid of regular disposables for good.

My husband was rather hesitant to use cloth diapers and for the first 4 months of LA’s life, he didn’t use cloth at all when he changed diapers. As of yesterday, I can say he is a cloth diaper user!!!  He stayed home from work yesterday and today with the baby and has used cloth all day and I am sooooo proud of him and sooooo happy!!!! YAY!!!!  Mission complete. Almost. LOL  Now let’s add gdiapers to the mix! 😉

January - I'm ready!!
